July 4, 1863 - captured at Vicksburg, Mississippi, August 5-8, 1864 - sick in Ross Hospital, Mobile, Alabama, Sept 28-Oct 6, 1864, in General Hospital; Roll of Prisoner of War paper shows him paroled at Meridian, Mississippi on May 10, 1865. Note from Malcolm Hunter: I noticed that in your work on Sarah Cooper that you have that her grandson, John C. Hefner, died on October 6, 1864. I went back and looked at his CSA Records that we have, and on that date, he was sent to the General Hospital. He was admitted September 28, 1864. The latest thing that we have on him is a "Roll of Prisoner of War" paper. It gives that John C. Heifner of Choctaw County, Mississippi, was paroled at Meridian, Mississippi, on May 10, 1865.
After this, he just dissappeared.

"Sallie" Hefner married James Newton Pollard, son of Benjamin Pollard and Elvira Russell, on 10-Feb-1866 at Choctaw County, Mississippi. Sarah E. "Sallie" Hefner died on 13-Apr-1926 at age 78.
     The 1850 Federal Census enumerated her as a member of David C. Hefner's household.

     Walter Lonzo Hefner was born on 15-Jul-1894 at White County, Arkansas. He was the son of Edgar Eugene Hefner and Frances Emma E. Quattlebaum. Walter Lonzo Hefner married Vela May Harrison. Walter Lonzo Hefner died on 8-Jun-1972 at Little Rock, Arkansas, at age 77.

     William S. Hefner Jr. was born on 4-Aug-1870 at Antioch, White County, Arkansas. He was the son of William Samuel Hefner and Sarah Eliza Jane Ward. William S. Hefner Jr. married Lela Laura Tyler Quattlebaum on 2-Dec-1894 at Antioch, White County, Arkansas. William S. Hefner Jr. died on 14-Sep-1949 at age 79.

     William Samuel Hefner was born on 17-Oct-1840 at Talladega County, Alabama. He was the son of David C. Hefner and Eliza Cooper. William Samuel Hefner married Sarah Eliza Jane Ward between 1862 and 1864 at Mississippi. William Samuel Hefner died on 2-Mar-1882 at Antioch, White County, Arkansas, at age 41.
     The 1850 Federal Census enumerated him as a member of David C. Hefner's household. The 1860 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on 17-Jul-1860 Snowsville, Choctaw County, Mississippi; a farm laborer in the household of J. B. Keen. William Samuel Hefner served in the Confederate Army during Civil War served for three and one half years; wounded in the Battle of New Hope, near Marietta, Georgia, on May 27, 1864. He served between 1-Apr-1862 and 1-May-1862 sick in hospital in Richmond. William Samuel Hefner was 23 as of 27-May-1864.
