Daniel Hodges was born on 10-Nov-1822 at Alabama; July, 1860 census has him as 36 yrs old. 1900 census, daughter Alice says father born in Florida; birth date from funeral notice. He married Mary (?). Daniel Hodges married Francis Caroline Wofford, daughter of John Wofford and Mary "Polly" Smith, in 1866. Daniel Hodges died on 4-Dec-1904 at Weesatche, Goliad County, Texas, at age 82 died of cerebral hemorhage and old age.
The 1850 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on 30-Nov-1850 Woolsey, Escambia County, Florida; Hodges, Daniel, age 28, born Alabama; with Saul Hodges, age 23, born Alabama; H. James Hodges in copies from Jeanne Luersen, by Hazel Lucile Sawey Duncan, lists James and Charity Hodges children as Dan, Alfred, Sam, Jim, Henry, David, Martha, Delilah, Sarah, Katie, Matilda and Mary. Also notes that "James Hodges was a traveling circuit judge. He and Charity are buried in Old Burt Cemetery in Halletsville. It is rumored that his picture hangs in a museum in Goliad, TX. but I have not been able to locate it. I would appreciate info on this." He was a Constable on 26-Oct-1842 at Butler County, Alabama. The 1850 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on 26-Nov-1850 Butler County, Alabama; Hodges, James, head, 55/m, farmer, born South Carolina. He and Charity (?) purchased land on 19-Dec-1857 at Butler County, Alabama.

He ancestor is Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a member of the South Carolina Assembly and was a signer of the U. S. Constitution, commander in the Revolution, an aide to George Washington, wounded in the battle of Charleston, taken prisoner by the British. Pinckney rose to the rank of Brigadier General. In 1796, he was sent as minister to France; in 1800 he was the Federalist party vice-presidential candidate; presidential candate in 1804 and 1808; died in 1825 in South Carolina.
