     Orville Owen Rice graduated from University of Texas. He was an architect for 33 years in Topeka. He took early retirement in 1981 to devote more time to bird watching, photography and painting. He was recognized by the Audubon Society as one of the top 10 bird artists in the nation, and in 1985 he won first place in the Kansas Wildlife Art Series competition in Print and Stamp. His paintings were exhibited in museums and art galleries in many states, and in shows sponsored by the National Audubon Society, Wilson Ornithological Society and American Ornithologists Union. Orville provided illustrations for six books and for issues of the Living Bird, a journal of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. His painting of the greater prairie chicken was presented to the Topeka Public Library in 1980. Bird paintings he completed while in college are housed in the Texas Memorial Museum at Austin. He was a Baptist.

Captain Peter Rice died on 28-Nov-1753 at Marlborough, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, at age 95. He was buried at Old Common Cemetery, Marlborough, Massachusetts.

He served during Colonial Militia in 1711 and "was the captain of the train-band, and one of the committee, in 1711, who designated the garrison houses in that town, and the heads of families that were to belong to them respectively, or resort to them in case of emergency"
...a commissioned officer in the colonial militia served practically for life; that the unit of military organization was the company othewise called the town training band or train-band and that the direct maintenance of military discipline depended upon the captains. These officers were clothed with considerable power. Promotion was also systematic and regular, and long service in any office the rule. The duties of any office, however dangerous, was considered as an obligation and an honor. He resided at Marlborough, Massachusetts, where Peter built, and his descendants for many generations occupied, the Peter Rice Homestead. This home is now the residence of the Marlborough Historical Society.
