  1. Amelia came from a family of five brothers and one sister, with many uncles, aunts and cousins nearby. She loved people, so it was natural for her to serve others. She taught school for two years before taking three years of nurse's training.
In 1943, the family moved from Texas to Los Angeles, where Amelia worked in the White Memorial Hospital for 28 years. She started as a nurse's aid then took State Board Exams and became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She retired in 1971 at the age of 78.
Education was important to George and Amelia and they sacrificed so their children could obtain a Christian education. She also gave financial assistance to many of her grandchildren and many of them have completed college. She helped many Filipino young people to obtain an education. Today there are pastors, nurses, teachers and others serving in the Philippines whom she helped with educational expenses.
Amelia saw value in most everything: scraps of material were turned into pretty quilts which her grandchildren cherish. She mended clothing for the needy, as did the Biblical Mother, Dorcas. She mailed hundreds of parcels of books, magazines and clothing to many parts of the world. She loved growing plants and flowers and always grew a large garden so she could share with neighbors, relatives and strangers.
Her quick wit and cheerful smile made friends even among those who cared for her during her last month in the Convalescent Care Center, and the patients learned to love her.
