He was about 4 years old when the family went on a trip to make harvests along the way of cotton corn, etc. They had a large travelers wagon with bunk beds and a kitchen on the back and two horses named Buttons and Bald Eagle. At night they would stop at a wagon yard (like today's motel) where a shed for the wagon and two horse stalls were furnished. In back was a place to build a fire to cook on. It was up high enough so one didn't have to squat down to tend the fire. The family lived in the wagon while staying there. She married John P. Dodd in 1937. Effie Pearl Dodd and Jewel Lillie Cooper owned and operated a Baptist Book Store and day nursery on Irvington Street in Houston. Effie Pearl Dodd died on 15-Sep-1958 at Houston, Harris County, Texas, at age 56 death certificate says she was divorced. "Mrs Effie Pearl Cooper Dodd was about 25 years old, living at home with her family and doing seamstress work, when she felt the call to preach. From then on her life was devoted to religion.
She preached the Full Gospel doctrine for the Pentecostal movement. She once had her own church at Bertram for three years. She traveled to many Texas towns as substitute preacher or evangelist.
Born in DeWitt, on the family farm, she was the second eldest of nine children; it was in helping to rear them that she learned to ply her needle so artfully.
A large woman, about six feet tall, with a kind, friendly face, she had nimble fingers that could sew the most delicate of stitches or twist colored paper into lovely flowers. Some of her work was for gifts, some for sale for funds for the church.
She was 35 when she married a Spanish-American War veteran 21 years ago. Mrs Dodd came to Houston in 1926. Ill for seven years, she lived with a sister, Miss Jewell Cooper, at 3917 Irvington Blvd.
Baptized at Irvington Pentecostal Church, she was a state worker with young people for the Pentecostal movement, and many pastors throughout the state first got their start under her leadership. 'Often she'd put some of the more timid ones on the young people's program to help them get confidence,' Miss Cooper said.
Mrs Mary Bowen, Irvington Pentecostal pastor, said Mrs Dodd 'blessed the lives of others and felt she was prepared to meet the Lord.'
All 35 members of her church choir took time off from their jobs today to sing at services for her in the church this morning." She was buried at Hollywood Cemetery, Houston, Harris County.

He received 14 ribbons and medals. He married Ruth Lois Hunt. Virgil Sanders "Bud" Elkins died on 8-Mar-1998 at Redding, California, at age 72 of a stroke. His life partner, Pat Moore, was with him.

     Peggy Lois Elkins was born on 18-Jul-1944 at Houston, Harris County, Texas. She graduated from Waukeegan High School, Waukeegan, Illinois. She married Wayne Webb. Peggy Lois Webb died on 8-Dec-1973 at Ventura, Ventura County, California, at age 29.

     Wayne Webb married Peggy Lois Elkins, daughter of Virgil Sanders "Bud" Elkins and Ruth Lois Hunt.

     Hoffman Peterson was born on 6-Apr-1863 at Skee, Haraldsted, Denmark; birth place per Marie Lønberg Peterson in 1942, on Helen Marie Peterson's birth certificate. His baptism name was Jorgen Hoffman Pedersen. He appeared on the census of 1-Feb-1870 at Denmark age 6, father died Aug 14, 1870. He left at Copenhagen, Denmark, on 8-Mar-1880 at age 17, occupation listed as a baker on the Emigration Register. Contract number 7400, destination Racine, Wisconsin. He arrived on 7-Apr-1880 at New York City, New York, aboard the S. S. Harald. Hoffman located in Racine, Wisconsin when he first came to America but soon went to Minneapolis and later to Fargo. Hoffman and his brother, Hans, had a wholesale bakery in Fargo. After they sold the bakery, Hoffman moved his family to Houston, about 1916 when Helen was 1 1/2 years old. They lived with the Keurolff's in the Kress building while their house was being built on 80 acres at Iowa Colony. They later had a barn, windmill and fence. May was born here. Hoffman got a 40 year loan from the Federal Land Bank to buy the 80 acres at Iowa Colony. Hoffman took care of a fig orchard, worked for Catholic nuns, an old folks home and the St. Anthony dairy. He owned a bicycle and a horse, but never owned an automobile. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge of America #243. "Mrs. James Frank, 1649 Washington Avenue, has as her guests her two brothers, former residents of Racine, making their first visit here in 20 years. The Rev. N. J. Peterson, former pastor of the Baptist church at Berkeley, Calif., is on a lecture tour, arriving here from Kalamazoo, Mich. He will leave on Saturday for Madison, en route to Fargo, N.D., and he expects to be at home with his family in California by Thanksgiving.
