     Orville Owen Rice was born on 21-May-1919 at DeWitt County, Texas. He graduated from University of Texas. He married Zora Wilkerson on 29-Aug-1943 at Austin, Texas. Orville Owen Rice died on 4-Jan-1986 at Topeka, Kansas, at age 66. He was buried at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kansas. He was a Baptist. He was an architect for 33 years in Topeka. He took early retirement in 1981 to devote more time to bird watching, photography and painting. He was recognized by the Audubon Society as one of the top 10 bird artists in the nation, and in 1985 he won first place in the Kansas Wildlife Art Series competition in Print and Stamp. His paintings were exhibited in museums and art galleries in many states, and in shows sponsored by the National Audubon Society, Wilson Ornithological Society and American Ornithologists Union. Orville provided illustrations for six books and for issues of the Living Bird, a journal of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. His painting of the greater prairie chicken was presented to the Topeka Public Library in 1980. Bird paintings he completed while in college are housed in the Texas Memorial Museum at Austin.
