Anita,
To my knowledge you are right about David’s wife being Elizabeth. Mary has to be in error.
Yes, Marcum purchased his first tract of land 22 October 1764, therefore he was born before the commonly accepted year of 1750. The deed is recorded in Edgecombe Deed Book C, page 305 with his named as Marcom Cooper. Tim Rackley. He was the son of David Cooper and Elizabeth Wilder. Marcome Cooper married Sarah Juliette Jackson Randolph, daughter of George Randolph, circa 1767 at Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Marcome Cooper died in 1811 at Nash County, North Carolina.
Marcome Cooper was an ancestor of a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Mary Frances Fewel Thompson (DAR # 372469 A-865)
Proof on DAR application lists: Will of David Cooper, dated 17 Mar 1792, proved April 1796 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Will Abstracts 1787-1840, Holcomb, p 90; Spartanburg County/District, South Carolina, Deed Abstracts, Books A-T, Pruitt, p 304 (deed signed by Elizabeth, 7-6-1805; Abstracts of Early Deeds of Edgecombe County, North Carolina, 1772-1788, V2, p 54. He left a will bequeathed $200 to Vinson; $300 to Hardy; $100 to David; $300 and negro girl Ginny to Rhoda; 400 acres purchased from Brinkley Gandy and negro boy Ben to John; negro boy Eseex to Mary; land purchased from Sanuel Smith to George; rest of land and land I lend to wife Sarah Cooper to William (Billy); also $20 to Elizabeth Tucker (no relationship stated). He served during Revolutionary War served as a Grand Juror and a Petit Juror for Nash County, North Carolina, between April 1778 and October 1784 (Nash County, North Carolina, Court Minutes, Volume I, 1778-1785, Dr. Stephen E. Bradley, pp 7, 14, 19, 20, 90)
