     Esther Johanna Peterson was born on Sep 12, 1913 at Fargo, Cass County, North Dakota. She married William Marcelus Matthews on Nov 6, 1935 at Houston, Texas. Esther Johanna Matthews died on Dec 13, 2003 at Houston at age 90 and was buried at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
     She graduated from San Jacinto High School with honors and worked for many years at Mortgage & Trust, Inc. She was very active at Epworth Parker United Methodist Church serving several terms as secretary for United Methodist Women and the Women's Circle Group, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir and writing a column for the church paper entitled, "The Gospel according to Matthews". She enjoyed several civic organizations, including Eastern Star, Gulf Gate AARP, Gulfgate Grandmothers Club and the Mason Park Craft Group. Her devoted friend for many years was Ellouise Fowler. She resided between 1929 and 1930 at Houston; worked at Kaufhold Root Beer.
