He married Mary Wheelace. Daniel (Progenitor) Hodges married Francis Caroline Wofford, daughter of John (4) Wofford and Mary "Polly" Smith, in 1866. Daniel (Progenitor) Hodges died on Dec 4, 1904 at Weesatche, Goliad County, Texas, at age 82 died of cerebral hemorhage and old age; Beck Funeral Home, Three Rivers, TX and was buried at Wofford Ranch Family Cemetery, DeWitt County. His estate was probated on Apr 10, 1905 at Goliad, Goliad County, Texas, inventory listed as: one horse, three cows with calves, $40.900; Other personal property, $50.00; The homestead place of 53 acres with improvements, $500.00.
     The 1850 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Nov 30, 1850 Woolsey, Escambia County, Florida; Hodges, Daniel, age 28, born Alabama; with Saul Hodges, age 23, born Alabama; Hugh Overstreet, 21, born Alabama; John Gully, 29, born Alabama; and Rich Hartsfield, 21, born North Carolina. D. W. Hodges paid poll tax of $.75, no land or personal property 1854 Goliad County, Texas. He was affiliated June 9, 1854 with the Murchison Masonic Lodge No. 80, dimitted Oct 22, 1855; signed a petition in 1856 as a Master Mason, along with 15 others including J. H. Hodges, to form a new lodge between 1854 and 1856 at Halletsville, Lavaca County, Texas. He was affiliated with the Alamita Masonic Lodge No. 200; offices served were Junior Deacon in 1857-58, Senior Deacon in 1860 and Treasurer in 1866 between 1856 and 1866 at Helena, Karnes County, Texas. Had personal property of 5 horses, 170 cattle and miscellaneous property totaling $1,420 between 1859 and 1860 Karnes County, Texas. The 1860 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Jul 23, 1860 Karnes County, Texas; Hodges, Daniel, head, 36/m, farmer, personal estate value 3800, born Alabama. He was appointed as Sheriff on Nov 16, 1861, elected April 1862; re-elected Aug 1, 1864 and served until Sept 1, 1865. During his tenure in office he was known to be honest and a fearless lawman. However, by 1864 he was anxious to "git back to his farm." at Karnes County, Texas. He was on the Goliad County tax records in 1866, owned 17 horses and 200 head cattle valued at $200 and $1200. He served as Justice of the Peace in 1866 for Goliad County, Texas. The 1870 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Jul 25, 1870 Goliad County, Texas. He sent beef up the trail with Bennett and Choate Traildrivers as he had so many times before. He was affiliated in 1873 with Middleton Masonic Lodge No. 391 in Weesatche. He served as C M in 1873, Secretary in 1874-75, and as a Tiler from 1875-1894 between 1873 and 1894 at Weesatche. The 1880 Federal Census enumerated him as head of household on Jun 10, 1880 Goliad, Goliad County, Texas; Hodges, Daniel, head, 56, born Alabama, parents born Georgia, Francis, 41, Elizbeth, 18, Jas P., 12, F. Orbery, 9, Mary, 3, Martha, 4, Katie, 6/12. He purchased 53 acres from J. L. M. Barnett and his wife A. J. (her mark) Barnett, for $400.
Daniel bought this property back from J. L. M. Barnett & wife on April 19, 1904. This is recorded in Goliad County Court House Land Records, Volume 33, page 148-149.
Frances Hodges sold this property to C.C. Luedicke on Dec 31, 1906, Vol 343, page 477-478 on Feb 13, 1882 at Goliad, Texas. He was affiliated with the Goliad Masonic Lodge No. 94 from Nov 3, 1894 until his death.

Hodges, all of estate during her life time, being able to sell property. Any property remaining at the death of his wife, one-half of said property shall go to his two daughers, Mrs. Alice Rice and Mrs. Elizabeth Young, of DeWitt County in equal shares. He name on cornerstone of Goliad County Courthouse in 1906 at Goliad, Goliad County.

He was Postmaster in Dushore aggregating 12 years of service. Selling his store he then lived retired until 1900, when he removed to Elmira Heights and devoted his time to real estate dealing and his property and private interests. between 1864 and 1900 at Dushore, Sullivan County.
